How To Read Reversals

I am still learning the tarot and have mostly avoided reading reversals. I've gotten into the habit of shuffling carefully so that no cards flip. The two main books I use have different takes on how to read reversals - one says it matters and lists all the reversed meanings. The other takes the same stance you do - it doesn't matter, all the cards have positive and negative meanings anyway. I'm at the point where it's still hard for me to figure out most of my readings, so wondering about reversals makes it seem murkier. (Should I do them? Am I "fixing" the cards by shuffling them this way? How can I tell when the card should be more negative?) Of course it doesn't help that I tend to worry things to death anyway!

For the most part I've decided not to do reversals at all, unless it's a particular requirement as in the Potent Self Spread, as you mentioned Arwen. And Rosa, I don't think you're "fixing" the cards or doing anything "wrong" by flipping your cards...Intent is everything. :)
